So today I was chatting with a friend who showed me her new schools pshe planning. It was for 'growing up. '
Now tell me where the objective 'I can name shapes of bodies' fits in a year 1 unit of work to do with how they change as they grow. The lesson was actually about using words to describe body shapes and the language to be modelled was 'larger, smaller, longer, longest, smallest'.
So the objective didnt fit the activity or language or unit.
And this was the final session in the unit. The prior sessions were equally as confusing. I wanted to give her a copy of my scheme but she isnt currently in a position to change pshe in her school.
one day....

I listened to a teacher tell a class that at 14 they would get covered in spots.
Other than being factually incorrect it conjured ideas of 13 and a bit year olds living in dread of the day of their 14 birthday when they would wake up covered in acne...and then when they didnt wondering what the hell was wrong with them as this was supposed to happen and therefore they were not normal!
