Im currently undertaking this. You have to evidence a range of standards to prove that you are aware of recent findings and guidance and always work towards best practice. I have created a file of evidence. I will soon be having a meeting with my head for her to check it over and ensure I have reached each standard, she will sign and send to the association. Then they may ask for evidence of a few standards. I get a logo to use and its another string to my bow in PSHE. It isn't costing anything. www.pshe-association.org.uk/content.aspx?CategoryID=1129&ArticleID=1088

Well I had the meeting with the head who has signed the file off. So soon I guess Ill be hearing from the association to see if Im awarded charter teacher status. As far as I know Ill be one of the first. It has really upped the status of PSHE in my school. Well worth it.

Head also decided to observe me before sending off the file. Was nice to see she cares about my practice and she seemed well impressed. I rather enjoyed showing her what can be achieved in a PSHE lesson as opposed to the all to familiar 'circle time' to sort out problems.
Now just waiting for the reply from the association....

Charter teacher award achieved! I'm the first ever chartered teacher for pshe. Apparently I beat a man to it by one day!!
Not that I'm gloating! I hope this can now be used to support other pshe teachers and coordinators .

The list of chartered teachers is growing! Each of us has proven our expertise AMD really should be used to fully reach our potential. There is so much we can do as a group and affect our local areas.

One key thing I have noticed since completing this is that pshe has such a huge status in my school. I am seen as an expert and someone you can come to to discuss things. It is well worth doing.

Teachers need to be able to talk with you as easily as they do your child. But if you don't need help washing blue paint off your hands, how will you get their attention?
